PERFECT QUILT PANEL

Hello how are you?
Today we are bringing this wonderful panel for you to learn how to do.
It's a long work. It is not easy but it is possible and will be worth the effort.

In the doubt follow the images of the site at the end of the step by step.

Types of creativity: Sewing> Quilting: patchwork
Sewing> Patchwork sewing
Difficulty: below average
Work time: 2 days
I made a master class on creating a small, but very spring panel "Flower Shop".

Approximate size of the panel: 59x59 cm.

Cutting (taking into account the allowance of 0.5 cm on each side of the part):
17x17 cm (attention: these squares are given taking into account the allowance of 2 cm per side !!! light fabric) - 4 pcs .;
6x6 cm (multi-colored fabrics) - 45 cw;
3Ñ…46 cm (colored fabric) - 2 pcs .;
3Ñ…50 cm (colored fabric) - 2 pcs .;
6Ñ…50 cm (colored fabric) - 2 pieces;
6x60 cm (colored fabric) - 2 pieces;
63x63 cm (for the reverse side) - 1 piece;
61x61 cm (filler, for example, slimex, needle-punched sintepon 100/150) - 1 piece;
3,5Ñ…300 cm (docked strips for the edge) - 1 pc .;
Approximately 10x53 cm (for kuliska, the same fabric as for the reverse side) - 1 pc.
For applications:

6,5Ñ…6,5 cm - 4 pcs.

1. Application.
The finished block (excluding the allowance) with applique and embroidery will be 15x15 cm. But I took these squares by 2 cm more, because During sewing appliques and embroidery, the fabric may slightly shrink. To arrange the pots approximately in the center of the future block, on the fabric can be noted the boundaries of the square 15x15 cm.

Draw a sketch of the pot, and then transfer it to the fabric. Cut future pots with allowances of at least 0.5 cm!

We cut the allowances along the entire contour, not reaching 1-2 mm to the planned line. On the rounds, cuts must be made more often, on straight lines they can be reduced to a minimum.

We apply glue to the allowances and glue them carefully on the drawn line. This procedure should be done gradually: a few cuts are smeared - glued, etc.

TIP. It is not necessary to glue the incisions with force, otherwise when sewing the application the needle will be difficult to squeeze through the glued layer of tissue. It is easy enough to fix the glued grease allowances. Especially it concerns the place where our "waterline" passes, the edges of the cuts can be squeezed with great effort.
By the way, if you are worried about the oblateness of the edges of the application, I can reassure you: after washing, the application will become voluminous.

When the allowances are glued, give them time to dry, because If you sew the application to the base immediately, the application itself is deformed. Therefore, let it take at least 15-20 minutes.
To ensure that the appliqué does not slip off the surface of the fabric, we fix it on the fabric also with the help of glue, and then sew it with a secret seam. To achieve smaller and more frequent stitches, I sew the appliqué with a "back needle" seam, so I place one more between each stitch.

You can decorate pots with lace or buttons.

2. Embroidery.
When the pots are sewn, "grow" in them flowers, spicy herbs, or both - to your taste!

In this panel I used mostly 3 threads of embroidery for embroidery, because The figure itself is not very large, and the extra thread added to the flowers
"Fat content."
TIP. If on your embroidery there are many smooth lines, it is better to use 2 threads of a mulina, and on the rounds make stitches more often.

3. Assembly of the scrappy top.
For convenience, I give a scheme for assembling panels.

We trim the squares with applique and embroidery up to 16x16 cm (taking into account the allowance of 0.5 cm on each side). Do not forget about the center and cut off the same amount of excess fabric from all sides.
Then we sew already cut 6x6 cm squares by 3 pieces in a row.

After sewing, we trim them, if necessary. Note that the average square width is 5 cm, which is the final size of the part. But the last one is 5.5 cm (since one edge of the part is not connected to the next square) with a small remainder, which I cut off. Similarly, I measure and align all the blocks after assembly as necessary, since not always the cross-linking of the parts passes millimeter to millimeter.

We connect the bands of three squares with the main blocks.

And we sew blocks together.

Then we collect bands from nine squares, sew them.

Smoothed seams in opposite directions are easier to match.

And sew the curbs.

4. Assembling a sandwich.
Spread the fabric on the floor with the face down. We fix it with paint tape. Then spread the filler and put a patch top on top.
IMPORTANT! Note that the fabric for the back side of any patchwork is taken with a margin of 2-3 cm, and the filler is 1-1.5 cm on each side!

 After that, we split the layers with pins.

 5. Stitch.
Choose the way we will make the stitch.
You can use the sewing machine manually, or the seam in the seam on the sewing machine. It is possible to decorate a panel with an unobtrusive pattern of stitches made on a free run, i.e. Simply do quilting.
I quilted the blocks with embroidery and applique and a narrow border around the perimeter. I walked around the pots to give them volume. And on the outer border, "painted" unobtrusive leaves. Similarly, the squares adorned with an unrequited stitch.

TIP. During stitching on straight lines I strongly recommend using the walking presser foot (and do not forget that the sewing speed with the presser foot

I placed the kuliska so that some part of it (about 1 cm) was cut off from above with an excess cloth after sewing the cant.

After sewing the edge along the entire perimeter, we cut off excess fabric and filler and sew the border with a hidden seam. A detailed description of the edging process can be found in my previous master class, here.

The bottom of the kuliska is also sewn with a hidden seam.

The panel is ready! Thank you all!
